Intrado 3rd Party App
Microsoft Teams Redesign
Time Frame
6 months
Project Summary
The redesign project aimed to enhance the Intrado 3rd party app, tailored for clients within the education sector. Specifically, it focused on providing an effective emergency contact system for use during school shootings or other life-threatening events. While the Intrado team had initial designs in place, my responsibility was to adapt and refine the app's design to seamlessly integrate with the Microsoft Teams system.
Over a period of six months, the project underwent thorough planning and implementation phases to ensure the app's functionality, usability, and compatibility with Microsoft Teams. This involved refining user interface elements, optimizing user experience flows, and ensuring smooth integration with existing Microsoft Teams infrastructure. The ultimate goal was to deliver a reliable and intuitive solution that enhances emergency communication capabilities for educational institutions.

Overview + Enhancing with New Features
Streamlined Navigation for Improved Usability
The project focused on streamlining the menu structure to facilitate easier navigation and ensuring clear labeling and intuitive organization of features, specifically on the desktop platform using Microsoft Teams. This redesign aimed to enable teachers to efficiently connect with other staff members using Teams features while also providing quick access to authorities in case of campus emergencies.
This initiative is particularly crucial given the increasing number of life-threatening incidents. By adding an extra layer of security within workplace environments, such as educational institutions, we aim to significantly enhance safety protocols and emergency response capabilities.
Enhanced Visual Design
The project focused on modernizing the user interface (UI) to present a clean and visually appealing layout, maintaining consistency in color, typography, and imagery for a unified look and Microsoft Teams feel. New features and tools were introduced, utilizing simple product cards to enhance user productivity and efficiency. Additionally, efforts were made to improve integration with Intrado's existing systems, ensuring seamless workflow management. This encompassed incorporating elements such as event maps, a user identification system, live notifications, an event activity list, and emergency contacts. These enhancements aimed to elevate the overall user experience and optimize the platform's effectiveness in managing critical situations.
Improved Accessibility
The project aimed to enhance the accessibility of the Microsoft Teams third-party app, ensuring inclusivity for all users. This involved ensuring compliance with accessibility standards to improve usability and convenience for individuals with diverse needs. Additionally, efforts were made to optimize the app for seamless use across all devices, further enhancing its accessibility and usability for a broader range of users.
Discovery + Defining Users Needs
Our design process begins with an in-depth exploration of user needs and pain points, achieved through brainstorming sessions that delve into user values and customer profiles. Additionally, we analyze Intrado's business model and strategize how it will integrate seamlessly within the Microsoft Teams framework. This comprehensive approach also includes conducting competitive analyses to gain valuable insights into industry standards and emerging trends.
Brainstorm User Needs + Business needs
Optimizing User Flow for Better Experience
We meticulously design user flows to systematically map out product features within the Microsoft Teams framework. This involves carefully plotting the journey users will take through the app, ensuring that every feature is seamlessly integrated and easily accessible within the Teams environment.
Mapping the Customer Journey for Deeper Insights
We've constructed customer journey maps tailored to each customer profile, envisioning their potential interactions with Intrado on the Microsoft Teams platform. These maps provide a clear visual representation of the user experience, from initial engagement to ongoing interaction, helping us optimize the integration process and enhance user satisfaction.
Next Steps
The next steps involve developers coding the designed features before the product is submitted to the Teams Apps Store. Unfortunately, my contract ends before the product reaches the market.
